QUESTION:
Why would hundreds of Bethel attendees unite together, give up an entire Saturday and work for hours in the heat and sun - for FREE???
ANSWER:
"In the same way,
let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and
praise your Father in Heaven." The Bible - (Matthew 5:16)
On May 1, 2010, Bethel attendees set to work to be the hands & feet of Jesus in our community with many different service projects. The service projects were funded by the Compassion arm of the Be The Light Campaign - (through YOUR GIVING - THANKS!)
These were the projects:CARD MINISTRY...Men, women & children all assembled at Bethel to hand-write hundreds of cards. The card recipients included those who are shut-in and disabled, men residing at the Whosoever Gospel Mission, thank yous to our Police Officers & Firefighters, as well as several families in our Bethel Family that has gone through a tremendous amount of suffering & loss in the past couple of years.
FRUIT & SWEET BASKET ASSEMBLY & DELIVERY...One team created & another team delivered beautiful fruit baskets & baskets of sweets, which were then delivered to local firehouses, police stations, Franklin Mills Security Office & a retirement home in the community. Cards from the CARD MINISTRY Team were included in these baskets.
CONSTRUCTION / REPAIR:
This team of skilled tradesmen blessed a single woman whose house had been robbed of its copper piping, resulting in the loss of water in her house. They purchased & installed a new hot water heater for her, connected her gas, hooked up her electricity and installed new piping.
WHOSOEVER GOSPEL MISSIONThis team went down to the WGM and helped to organize their food pantry, helped prepare lunch for the residents as well as our team, turned over a plot of land that will be used for a garden for the men and helped hang up hundreds of donations.
TEEN CHALLENGEThis team went to a local Teen Challenge for women and spent time with the residents.
MALL CLEAN UPIn order to be a blessing to the Franklin Mills Mall, we had a team of folks who walked to perimeter and picked up trash. This team also discovered a mamma duck in distress (her babies all fell down a storm sewer). A very caring team then launched a rescue mission. Mamma and 7 of the 10 babies were successfully rescued and transported back to the woods.
MILITARY CARE PACKAGESThis team assembled wonderful care packages that were sent to our men & women serving our country in the military.
PARK CLEAN UPThis team, working with Fairmont Park Commission, went to a local park & creek and spent the day cleaning up, painting and pulling invasive plant species.
SPRING FLING AT CREEKSIDE APARTMENTSServing at a very large, close-by apartment community, this team hosted a free BBQ for the residents that included face-painting.
30 HOUR FAMINE & LOCK-INOur Jr. & Sr. high students participated in a 30 hour fast to experience hunger and to raise awareness to the devastating problem of hunger that children around the world face.
FEEDING THE HOMELESSWe had a team that went to downtown Philadelphia to feed the homeless.
FOOD BASKET ASSEMBLYThe children in our Childrens Ministry areas all pitched together and assembled many food baskets for families in need in our congregation.
